Another New Year’s Post
I imagine this is one of millions of “New Year’s” posts that will be finding their way onto the net. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of New Year’s Resolution lists, reflections on 2006, hopes for the new year…and other such outlook and postulations.
I like humor. Here’s a quote from a friend of mine (Paul McKee) who spent a few moments researching the rotation of the earth (I love random):
“… Another boyhood trick I’m still working on: if you were to hang above the surface of the Earth at the equator without moving, you would see 25,000 miles pass by in 24 hours, at a speed of 25000/24 or just over 1000 miles per hour. That’s why I keep spilling my coffee … “
That is some good ol’ classic Paul.
I had my own self-reflection time this past week as I spent a few days at my parent’s home in a small town in central Washington. There’s nothing like the general lack of a busy population to force you to take a deep breath, relax…and think. Instead of a New Year’s Resolution, my thought processes were a bit different this time around (I’ve never been a big fan of the New Year’s Resolution thing anyway).
Christmas Day was for me that critical cross-roads date for me. Instead of “resolving”, I needed a symbolic day for “new beginnings”. What better day that the day we culturally recognize as the birth of a Savior who would forever change human history. New Beginnings for me means releasing the things that have been weighing me down and pressing on for what the future holds.
I could go on but this is a personal matter that I’d rather DO before I SAY. Words mean nothing without action.
Because God is who He said He is and I am who He made me to be…it’s going to be a great year.
