It’s almost become passe to make deriding comments about the “mainstream, American” church these days. In fact, I think it’s become hip to be a Christian and safely deride other Christians as materialistic, “mean”, conservative…the names go on.
One thing I’ve been challenged in my own life more and more is the meaninglessness of the words we use. To dissent is not, in itself, noble…if the dissension is on faulty ground – or serves to merely move the shame from ourselves to others.
What would happen if we would put aside our personal “grievances” that merely elevate ourselves and really sought after the purposes of the church…and pursued those purposes – even if we set out alone?
There is a season ahead for my church family (Portland Christian Center) and I’m excited to be an active part of an imperfect church pursuing a perfect God to fulfill His perfect purposes.
