Coffee and Midnight
June 6, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General

So, I’m sitting here…just completed some website updates – and felt the urge to sip some good ol’ black tar – aka “coffee”. What was I thinking. On top of that, I’ve been groovin’ (seriously…”groovin”) to some techno/dance music. Oh my.

With that said – what better activity than to blog.

I finished reading the most over-hyped book of fiction EVER – The DaVinci Code. Entertaining? Yeah, a little. Substantive? Hardly. I found myself laughing out loud at frequent dialogue that wasn’t meant to be humorous. It was obvious a lot of the “historical” references were nothing but a pile of steaming smelly-stuff when the writer felt the need to include an over-abundance of “oh, all historians know this is true”-esque statements as if reinforcing bogus information with “duh” comments would make the historical references more believable. Paa-lease!

Overall? I’d give it a 2.5 out of 5. It was entertaining with some clever twists but for someone who doesn’t like being so overtly indoctrinated with complete false-hoods and misrepresentations, it was frequently abrasive. I know it may seem I’m jumping on the band-wagon here but it really wasn’t that well written. I don’t pretend to be a literary luminary but I think I know what a great read is when I read it…and this one was a once and done book.

Moving on…

Hey, if you have no plans this weekend (Saturday to be specific) and are looking for something to do. Well, hop in the car and drive about an hour out of Portland to the Capture The Wind Festivalawesome little city of Hood River, Oregon. I’ll be playing at an outdoor festival called “Capture the Wind”. My set is primarily worship-music based with a couple of cool additions to mix things up…it’ll be a fun day and hopefully the weather cooperates. It’s a free festival and I’ll be playing at 7 PM but there’s music throughout the day (starts at noon and goes till 10 PM).

Let’s see…12:12 AM and I’m still wide awake.

Oh my.

Hey, while you’re here, why don’t you drop a comment. it would be comforting on some level to know that people are actually reading this. (no, I won’t beg…too hard)

  1. That’s a great comment! “A note to self” if you will.
