First Day = Powder Day!

Mt. Hood Meadows

Finally! Today was my first trip up to the mountain after a couple of weeks of watching the snow accumulate while my calendar said “no-go” to a trip up to the peaks. Also, it didn’t help that my chosen ski area at Mt. Hood Meadows was closed with Highway 35 washed out (reopened on Saturday).

So, today (Monday) I packed up my gear and took a much needed break-day away from town. After asking around and finding no-one else who could join me, I headed up solo at 6:23 AM. I must admit that I actually like early morning trips up to the mountain.

Heading up, I knew they had accumulation overnight so I was looking forward to a relaxing day riding some great powder and early on, the powder didn’t disappoint. As the day continued, the conditions worsened with increasing winds and temperatures rising at the base which resulted in wet snow that, by the time I left, had me soaked to the bone.

All in all - there is some great snow up there so it’s going to be a great season ahead. If you’re a skier / rider and would like to join me when I next head up, let me know.
