Manage Your RSS News

January 13, 2007  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

Netvibes LogoI am a self-confessing RSS (”Real Simple Syndication”) junkie and there are some great tools available to make the management of these great news sources easier and easier. One great site I recently found and love is netvibes [ www.netvibes.com ]. It’s a fully customizable (AJAX-powered for those that know…or care) web interface that makes it easy to create your own unique news-manager portal. Other such sites include Google News Reader and on the software-side, NetNewsWire.

What makes Netvibes different? I like how they allow you to easily manage all your news-content, giving you automatically updated feeds from as many feeds as you like. Using their system, I’ve cut down drastically in the time it takes to stay on top of the latest news…something that comes in handy when I’m being my usual curious self.

What does 200 Calories look like?

January 6, 2007  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

We recently changed calendar numbers so of course this is the time of the year when we once again watch what we eat, how often we exercise, etc. etc…

Since we are becoming more and more creators of images over words – here’s a site that show you what 200 Calories actually looks like. I thought it was a clever idea. Oh, and I’m joining the minions of folks who have determined to watch what they eat in the new year…live healthier – live longer (and better).

January 4, 2007  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

I came across this article on lifehacker.com that offers a list of six (6) sweet web applications to make your life that much more organized on "on-task". My interest was especially piqued by the Wesabe web tools for managing your finances. [ Click here for the lifehacker.com article ] Two more sweet tools to help you get organized and more information in the new year are... 1. Flock - a new web-browser that touts itself as the "the social web browser". I love it for two specific reasons - 1) it's RSS reader has a great layout and ease of use and 2) you can integrate your blog into it so with a simple click, you can enter your new entry and...voila! Instant blog. 2. Netvibes.com - a fabulous catch-all to manage all the news feeds you want to monitor. You can customize the navigation/tabs to better manage the flow...

Another New Year’s Post

January 1, 2007  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

I imagine this is one of millions of "New Year's" posts that will be finding their way onto the net.  I'm sure you'll find plenty of New Year's Resolution lists, reflections on 2006, hopes for the new year...and other such outlook and postulations. I like humor. Here's a quote from a friend of mine (Paul McKee) who spent a few moments researching the rotation of the earth (I love random): "... Another boyhood trick I'm still working on: if you were to hang above the surface of the Earth at the equator without moving, you would see 25,000 miles pass by in 24 hours, at a speed of 25000/24 or just over 1000 miles per hour. That's why I keep spilling my coffee ... " That is some good ol' classic Paul. I had my own self-reflection time this past week as I spent a few days at my parent's home in a small...

For all you paranoid Mac users who think your systems are so much better than everyone elses, you need to see this video article by David Pogue over at NYTimes.com.

Click here to view this insightful video that dispels all the paranoid musings of Mac users as they accuse Vista (the next Windows release) of ripping off the Mac OS X. Silly people. HA!
