Music Video Dates

June 30, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

Now before you go thinking I'm some sort of rockstar (hardly...even in my own mind) I just thought I'd pass along the word that I just got notified that an acoustic live video I did back in early '04 will be played on JCTV this coming Sunday. They notify me when it's going to be shown so I thought I'd post the information in case you happen to be bored on any of these date/times and want to see me make noise on the web. Again, this was over two years ago so please, be careful with any excessive laughing or teasing (unless you're a single female flirting with me...then it's ok ... well, maybe). Here' the link: www.jctv.org Here's the schedule of the shows where my video for the song "I Sing for Joy" (not in any way referencing Mrs. Wilson or Burchett mind you) will be played sometime during...

A Lesson in Online Surfing Security

June 29, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  1 Comment

Before you roll your eyes on a matter of internet security, please bear with me for a just a few short but hopefully insightful moments as I discuss a real-life experience with a spoofing hack I experienced tonight while browsing a buddy's Myspace page. Here's the scenario. I went to Tyler Gould's Myspace and just about 5 seconds into looking at it, it appears that Myspace had kicked me out and I'm redirected to a login page (see image). The page looked legit. Same annoying ads...same login pane. No big deal, right? Just log in and continue surfing. BUT...here's the kicker. Something just didn't seem right. All I had to do was hit the back button and I was back to my Myspace home page and logged in just fine. The next time it happened, I looked up at the website address window (that...

A Day in the Life of Two Kenyan Men

June 27, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

Two Kenyan men making a livingI try to get my daily fix of Rocketboom.com (video blog) and today’s episode was especially interesting. Often Amanda (the blog host) has correspondents contribute from around the world and this one comes from Nairobi Kenya. It’s about two friends who happen to be handicapped and is a brief look at their lives and what they do to survive. A good human interest story. Click here to watch it.

Global Warming Discusson/Info Part II

June 26, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

I posted one article I found a few days ago on the issue of Global Warming. I found it on Digg.com and the article recieved plenty of heated comments from both sides. I just discovered this article today from the folks over at BBC.com and it seems to offer a more balanced discussion of this "hot" topic of the day (pun intended). Reading the previous article and then looking at this article, it seems to me that balance is needed. As useful as sensationalism can be to getting "the word" out, I do see the danger of overselling something. We can of course thank our friends in the media who need to sensationalize things to the max to sell their wares. Is global warming a problem? I'm no climatologist so I can't really offer a qualified answer either way. But let's all make sure we're not...

BOOK REVIEW: Confessions of a Reformission Rev.

June 23, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

I received a copy of this book (written by Mark Driscoll - pastor of Mars Hill) when I responded to a blog entry from Mars Hill Church (Seattle, WA). It was a free copy and the request was that I would read and then write up a review on my blog. Well, I just finished the book so it's time to pass along a review on the book - it's subject matter and contents. Starting this book I must admit I came into it with some pre-conceived ideas of what it might be about as well as the various things I had heard about Mark himself. It continues to amaze me how much we feed off of gossip of others and the more secondhand information I hear, the less 2nd hand information I want to hear. There's a tendency among too many circles (and I'll admit I...
