An “Inconvient Truth” or a “Misleading Lie”?

Global warming. You’ve heard about it. I’ve heard about it. How much truth is behind this apparently alarming epidemic? I found this intriguing article that discusses some of the claims in Gore’s latest film. While I am becoming more and more informed and tuned in to my role as someone who needs to care about God’s creation (I consider myself a “conservationist-in-training” thanks to my good friend Brandon)…I also want to make sure I’m not being duped by junk science that’s meant to score political points on either side.

“Scientists have an independent obligation to respect and present the truth as they see it,” Al Gore sensibly asserts in his film “An Inconvenient Truth.” With that outlook in mind, what do world climate experts actually think about the science of his movie? Is the movie full of “junk science”?

I hear your call

I lay still as the beating of the rain
Signals a day of fresh beginnings

Water that cleanses
Water that soothes
Water that purifies the dust of life

In the midst of pain
I feel Your comforting breeze
Face to face with loss
I grasp that glimmer of a greater hope

A hope that does not fail
Memories that carry us beyond
The calls of childhood
The laughter of summer

Age gathers, shadows grow
What once was vibrant
Now grows weary

But to that greater hope I will hope
To that glorious home
I will send

One which I will ever hold dear to my heart.

An ode to my grandmother…in these passing days, not knowing when you will leave us for your greater home, know that youre handprint on my life will ever remain.

There's some great projects crossing my paths involved everything from music to web development to ministry to video work. It's like "lions and tiger and bears...oh my" ... but different in that I like all of these projects I'm doing and none of them are able to rip me apart. Tomorrow is going to be a full day of music. Again, I'll be taking a band (Tim, Tabor & Andrew to be specific) down to Hood River for a free outdoor music festival called Capture The Wind. On the drive home tonight, I passed all the folks that are already lining up along the parade route for the Rose Parade tomorrow. There were tents, coolers, outdoor chairs...and the crazy people who think this is...

Something Wise Involving Pigs

June 8, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

I found this quote on a blog comment I was reading yesterday and it made me laugh.

“Never try to teach a pig to sing. It wastes your time, and annoys the pig”

There’s some wise old truth in that one…and the visual image is, well…

For anyone who doesn’t have any plans tomorrow night and may be looking for an excuse to get out to town – I’ll be playing at a free music festival tomorrow in Hood River. I’m slotted to play around 7 PM. If you want more information…look at the blog entry I posted a few days ago. The festival is called “Capture the Wind” (appropriate name for Hood River).
