First of all...a shout-out to Lori Ritchie. I knew about this film coming out but her recent Myspace Bulletin entry gave me the notion to post this on my blog. I just wanted to pass along a movie promotion for a friend of mine (Stephen Lile) that was produced with Disney. CLICK HERE to check out the details on Myspace The movie, entitled After is going to hit film festivals this summer and is produced by two YWAMers, Stephen Lile, Executive Producer, and David Cunningham, Director....and son of Loren Cunningham (the guy who started YWAM). After is a pscyological thriller set in Moscow. It was actully filmed on location in Moscow and Bratislava. It's about urban explorers that go exploring in the Moscow subway to find Stalin's underground Metro 2. The movie opens with a base jump by Joe Jennings (James Bond and many commercials). A Righteous Rant on Creativity or the Lack Thereof

May 10, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

Like everyone else out there, I get lots of unwanted e-mail. I'm not sure what's been happening of late, but the spammers seem to be getting more clever and I'm constantly being bombarded with Online Pharmaceuticals, stock deals, and someone in Nigeria who claims to want to hand over millions of dollars with no string attached. But I'm not alone in having to throw away other people's trash and my recycle bin at home shows that it's not limited to just e-junk-mail. Ok, so here's the rant. I don't know if I ever subscribed to this site or not, but I received a newsletter from a site called "Church Leader Insights with Nelson Searcy". The e-newlsetter is classy. Their site is classy. I haven't looked into them much but first impression is that these folks have it together. That was until I saw this...

Chad Africa in the news

May 8, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

I came across this article while checking the Washington Post RSS feed. What immediately jumped out at me was the location - N'Djamena, Chad - a place I've been to just a couple of years ago. It's been good to see more and more of the stories of the dire situations in many African countries finally being reported here in the West. I don't mean just the simple message of poverty and starvation, but the more foundational issues that cause much of this poverty - the propensity of corruption that keeps the vicious cycle in place. This story of a film-makers close encounter with real-life violence in the midst of a fictional movie-making experience goes to show the conditions many live in. What's disheartening about the conditions is that oftentimes the best people in these countries end up leaving if and whenever possible for Europe or America,...

Haarstad…Harstad? Hmm.

May 8, 2006  |  by Jon Haarstad  |  General  |  No Comments

I think I may have happened on to something when I stumbled across an interesting site called Answers.com. I was actually looking for drum loops that shared a good Sousa marching-band feel for a project I'm working on for my church's youth choir. Well, having one of those online "geek" moments, I typed in my last name to see what this great Answers.com site could really do and...voila! It had a hit! My last name is Haarstad. There's a town in Norway called...Harstad. I'm Norwegian. Are you understanding just where I'm headed with this one? Well, here's the great city that I like to think is named after me (well, actually my family but for egos sake - let's just call it "my city"). Harstad, Norway - check it out. If you stop to visit, just tell them you know me and they'll give you...

Can Dogs Have Split Personalities?

I finally stopped crying…from laughing so hard. This dog needs a visit with Dr. Phil to take care of some anger issues and a psychiatrist for…well, you’ll see…
