The Great Winter Prediction

by Jon Haarstad on November 5, 2006

Mt. HoodOk – so, now I have my season pass and today I made a trip to the local Ski/Snowboard Expo sale and got the gear I need for the coming season. So, the big question is how will the coming winter season be for those like me that love the white stuff?

Every year, it’s predictions galore and of course I tend to favor the “good” predictions. With all the talk of “global warming”, you’d think we may never see snow again…but that’s another discussion for another day (and on another blog).

Well…I just read an encouraging projection on the coming months from the good ol’ Farmer’s Almanac [ click here to read the article ]. The predictions call for a very cold winter ahead with lots of snow accumulations. Hurray!!! Forecasts call for snow to start collecting up at Mt. Hood in a couple of days…so here’s hoping we can get this powder-party started soon.

So, if you’ve read this far, there’s a good likelihood that you also enjoy the winter activities up in the beautiful and pristine mountains. If you live in or around Portland – here’s an opportunity for you. Once the mountains open up, I’ll be coordinating weekly trips up to Mt. Hood Meadows EVERY Saturday. We’ll be meeting at my house and carpooling from here. If you’re interested, go to my home page [ www.jonhaarstad.com ] and use the Contact Page.

As long as the snows lay off from Oklahoma to Oregon for another week, that's all I want.

Many skiers buy season passes and most of them are non-refundable, making them a use-it-or-lose-it proposition. However, you can protect your investment in a season pass against loss of use with SkierGuard, the insurance program for frequent skiers and riders. Coverage may be purchased at many ski areas or directly at http://www.skierguard.com
